Going Raw Day 5
Today was much like yesterday, quite tiring but with a nice reserve of backup energy. The other thing that has me puzzled is that I’m quite hot, not fever hot, but still hot. My body could be burning off excess energy; I can’t see any other explanation for it.
There’s nothing else to really report. Really yummy food, plus fresh, and as much as you can eat, this is the diet that everyone wants really.

Going Raw Day 4
Today was a little hard. I woke up after a good 9 hours sleep, I think I needed it because I felt really sore going to bed last night. I don’t think I’ll continue sleeping that long though. After that it was just business as usual, still higher than average energy, but nothing greatly outstanding.
At work though, I finally experienced what craving really is. Every time I had to serve food I would want to pinch a bite to eat. I wasn’t hungry at all, it wasn’t even a bodily hunger; it was like a mental compulsion. If I wasn’t as aware of it as I am now, I think I would have given into temptation. I can conquer it easily, but I wonder how long it’s going to go on for. It’s easy, but the mental energy required is high. Glad I have much more than usual of it. ![]()
The only other thing of note, and the thing that had me worried today was that I got rather dizzy at one point, but drinking two big glasses of water and having a banana got rid of it. It came on suddenly as well, and quite strongly. It was probably something to do with detox, and my body having to use excess water to cleanse my system. I’ve been thirstier than normal and drinking a lot more water. I’ll just have to see what happens.

Going Raw Day 3
I ended up getting to sleep really late last night – 5am. I spent too much time reading raw blogs and looking recipes, but at least now I have a shopping list for recipes.
I woke up at 1pm feeling rather refreshed, had some spinach for breakfast, straight out of the bag. It was an awesome taste and fun too. Made a banana, apple and pineapple smoothie and learnt that you really should peel the apples first, but it was still yummy. Still getting used to the excess energy though, I had so much I needed to jump on my exercise bike to burn it off, and I normally do 5-10 minutes worth, I set it for 5 minutes because I was feeling sore, and ended up extending it to 15, longest I’ve done in a while. If this keeps up, I’ll be doing an hour at a time by the end of the week.
I’ve also restarted my weight log as well, so I’ll be keeping that posted. I’m not one for stats or measuring, even though on a raw diet you should, but it’s one measurement that’s interesting and easy to do.
Also, being able to eat anything raw, whenever, however is completely and utterly awesome.
Work was interesting. I didn’t get as tired as I normally do. I ended up finishing the night feeling both tired and energised. Even now I’m feeling sleepy, but alert. It’s almost like there’s this undercurrent of energy I can tap into if I need to.
Lastly: I couldn’t stop laughing when I picked up my clothes to wear and thought to myself: I’m going to need new pants.
Going Raw Day 2
Many people have said about the energy gain from a raw food diet, but that couldn’t prepare me for the experience. I went to sleep at about 3am because I wasn’t that tired before and set my alarm for 11am, a reasonable 8 hour sleep. I woke up at 9:30 instead, with more energy than I knew what to do with. First thing I did was jump on my exercise bike to burn some of it, then went back to bed, for all of 15 minutes.
The energy is unbearable really, it’s a huge leap forward on top of anything else I’ve ever experienced, even compared to the most intense sugar rush I’ve ever had, and I’ve drunk red cordial without mixing it before.
My mind feels like it’s had all the breaks and slowdowns taken off it, it’s taking a lot of focus just to not let it run rampant. I can’t stop thinking.
After using the energy to get some of my goals done, I hit an energy slump, or more like a backlash. At about 2pm I felt really tired and weird. Slowly a headache came on, and I felt nauseous, but a long hot shower quickly fixed that. After about half an hour I was good to go again, but with less energy. Right now I feel like I’m back at my normal energy, but fresher somehow.
The food has been good; I picked up some broccoli, spring onions and celery today. The variety is great, I’m not bored yet, but I’ve started getting thought cravings for cheese, bacon and ice-cream, not real cravings, just mental ones. I’m glad my friends and housemate are so supportive; it’s making it go a lot easier.
Tomorrow I’ll look up some dip recipes and see what I can make; I also have to look into getting a dehydrator. I did almost no preparation going into the diet and it has bit me in the arse quite hard.
Going Raw Day 1
So yesterday I started a raw diet, just to see what it’s like. It’s definately been an experience so far, all the fresh food and energy gained from it. I will be posting daily about it, starting now.
Day 1
First up was shopping and throwing out old food. It was strangely liberating, I went to the supermarket knowing that I can’t really buy anything in over half the store, so I stuck to the produce section and bought all the food that sounded or looked good. Just being able to do this was exciting and fun.
I bought some lettuce, spinach, beans, carrots, bananas, apples, oranges, pineapple and some mixed dried fruit and nuts, for a start. Lunch consisted of a couple of bananas and carrots with a handful of mixed nuts and a glass of apple juice. Yum!
Now I had been feeling a bit groggy recently due to having too much takeaway, because it was free. The catch was that there’s no such thing as free food, you pay for it with your health and your energy. The fresh lunch meal picked me right up though, and I got stuck into throwing out the left over KFC and anything I would be tempted to eat. After that I still had heaps of energy, so I cleaned the dishes, the kitchen, then my bedroom and my study, had a shower then got on the exercise bike for 5 minutes.
For dinner I made myself a green banana smoothie with 3 bananas, 2 handfuls of spinach, some pineapple and 2 glasses of water. It turned out thick, rich and very delicious, so much so that I can’t finish all of it. I’m going to save the rest for breakfast.
That ends the quick account of the first day raw. I knew it would be yummy, but I wasn’t expecting the energy boost or the fun of doing something new. The only thing I need to complete is getting a book with recipes and nutritional guides to keep me on track.
